First-timer's guide · Aug 20–21, 2026 · Minneapolis

Working Outdoor Retailer Summer 2026 for the first time.

252 exhibitors, 18,000 attendees, and a rhythm you only learn by working it. Here's what matters — for the booth side and the buying side — plus the Minneapolis logistics nobody puts in the brochure.

If you're exhibiting

New exhibitor tips

01

Minneapolis is a new venue for everyone

After Las Vegas, Anaheim, Long Beach, Reno, Salt Lake City and Denver, the show moves to the Minneapolis Convention Center in 2026. Nobody has muscle memory for this floor — treat wayfinding, signage and stand height as more important than usual.

02

Advance warehouse or overtime charges

Freeman handles the floor, and shipments arriving at the advance warehouse after the deadline attract overtime charges. The Exhibitor Service Manual carries the labels and dates — order early, it is the cheapest window.

03

Grip runs matchmaking and lead retrieval

The official app handles both meeting matchmaking and lead retrieval. Get your profile and product categories complete before buyers start building schedules, and decide whether you are renting scanners or capturing on your own phones.

04

Education Day is a soft opening

Wednesday is Retailer Playbook Lab and Industry Day rather than exhibit hours — the hall opens Thursday. Use Wednesday for setup, buyer coffees and the sessions where retailers actually are.

05

The camera policy is strict — and protects you

Unauthorised photography in booths is prohibited and badges get revoked for it. Your samples are safer here than at most shows, and your own capture of buyer badges is the sanctioned way to record a conversation.

New visitor tips

01

Pre-register and it is free; wait and it is not

Retail buyers, importers and distributors attend free if they pre-register — from 19 August it costs $40 on site. Non-buying categories (media sales, event organisers, non-exhibiting manufacturers, independent reps) pay $1,000–$1,200 depending on when they book.

02

You must qualify to attend

The show is closed to the public and admits only authorised buyers and trade. Have your credentials ready at registration — the requirements are published in advance and enforced.

03

Hall hours are shorter than the show

Wednesday is education only; the exhibit hall runs Thursday 10:00–18:00 and Friday 10:00–15:00. That is effectively one and a half days of floor time — plan the route before you arrive.

04

The seminars are free with your badge

Education at Outdoor Retailer costs nothing beyond the show badge. For a buyer, the Retailer Playbook Lab on Wednesday is the highest-value free content of the week.

05

No suitcasing — and no soliciting without a booth

The no-soliciting policy is enforced by removal from the floor. If you are a supplier hoping to sell from the aisles, buy a booth instead.

How the days flow

  • —Wednesday: education day — Retailer Playbook Lab in the morning, Industry Day from 13:30. The hall is not open.
  • —Thursday: the main floor day, 10:00–18:00 — full traffic and the day appointments should land.
  • —Friday: 10:00–15:00 only. A short, deal-closing morning; anything not covered by lunch will not be covered.

Minneapolis logistics

Getting there

Minneapolis Convention Center, 1301 2nd Avenue S. Downtown Minneapolis is compact and connected by skyway — an advantage over the sprawl of previous host cities.

Connectivity

Complimentary Wi-Fi covers light use only. If you are streaming, running a demo or taking live orders, buy dedicated internet through the convention center rather than gambling on the free network.

Housing

EvolveCon / Hotel Maps is the official housing provider. Treat unsolicited "official" room offers from other agencies as the scam they usually are — the show publishes its approved vendor list for exactly this reason.

The tip every guide agrees on

Capture at the booth. Never "the stack for later."

Whichever side of the aisle you work at Outdoor Retailer Summer 2026, DaGaMa turns photos of cards, badges, and products into a structured Google Sheet you own — in WhatsApp, Telegram, or WeChat. Free for your first 24 hours.
